Uganda has officially launched the inaugural Miss Universe Uganda 2026 competition, marking the country’s first participation in the globally renowned Miss Universe platform.

The competition was unveiled during a media briefing held on Thursday at Mestil Hotel & Residences, ushering in what organizers described as a new era for women empowerment, leadership, culture, fashion, and advocacy in Uganda.

Led by National Director Joram Muzira, the platform aims to redefine beauty pageantry by promoting purpose-driven leadership and creating opportunities for young Ugandan women to represent the country on the international stage.

Speaking during the launch, Muzira said the initiative goes beyond beauty contests and represents a major cultural milestone for Uganda.

He noted that the platform is intended to provide visibility, empowerment, and global representation for Ugandan women while also supporting the growth of the country’s creative industry.

The Miss Universe Uganda competition is expected to serve as a national platform for fashion, media, tourism, culture, and youth empowerment, culminating in Uganda’s debut appearance at the 75th edition of Miss Universe later this year.

Applications for contestants officially opened on May 14 and will run until June 4, 2026. Organizers said the selection process will focus on identifying confident, intelligent, and purpose-driven women capable of representing Uganda internationally.

The competition journey will include nationwide digital campaigns, media engagements, contestant activities, and awareness drives aimed at encouraging participation in the historic first edition.

National casting auditions are scheduled for June 7 at MOTIV, where aspiring delegates will be assessed on confidence, communication skills, leadership, intelligence, beauty, and advocacy.

Selected contestants will then undergo a non-residential bootcamp from June 9 to July 4 featuring mentorship, runway coaching, public speaking, wellness training, branding, and media preparation.

A residential bootcamp scheduled for July and August will further prepare contestants through leadership workshops, cultural experiences, content production, media training, and elimination rounds ahead of the finale.

One of the competition’s key events, the Sashing Ceremony, will officially introduce contestants to the public and assign them regional or official Miss Universe Uganda sashes in a celebration of elegance, sisterhood, and national pride.

The grand finale is slated for August 1, 2026, when Uganda will crown its first-ever Miss Universe Uganda representative. The winner will then undergo intensive international preparations, including media training, styling, fitness, public speaking, and advocacy development ahead of the global competition in November.

Uganda’s representative will compete alongside delegates from across the world at the 75th edition of Miss Universe, showcasing the country’s culture, creativity, and talent on the international stage.
